Is the PNG to SVG converter free?

Does it keep the colors?

Yes. Color mode (the default) traces your image in full color and fits gradients into smooth color bands, so multi-color logos keep their colors. Choose Monochrome for a single-color result.

How does it handle gradients?

Accepted Answer

It slices them into flat color bands rather than dropping them. An SVG path holds one solid fill, so a smooth ramp has to become a stack of shapes that reads as smooth at normal sizes. The same mechanism is why even the completely flat badge above — five brand colors to the eye — comes back with 130 fills: every soft edge in the original PNG gets its own thin blended shape. Heavily shaded artwork produces a lot more, which is what the size guardrail in the next answer is for.

Is there a limit on how many colors it can keep?

There's no fixed cap on colors — the tracer keeps adding fills until the image is covered, 130 of them on the badge above. What is capped is the output size: when a faithful trace runs past roughly 500KB or 1,000 paths, we re-run it automatically on the simplified preset. On that same badge, simplified produces 45 paths and 35 fills at 31KB instead of 187 paths at 77KB, and at logo sizes the difference is hard to spot.

Why do most free PNG to SVG converters only give black and white?

Because one-color tracing is a much easier problem. The tracer most free tools are built on works on a two-tone bitmap by design — the image is thresholded to black and white first, then a single outline is traced. Keeping color needs a different algorithm that segments the image into color regions and traces each one, which is what runs here.

Will the background be transparent?

In Monochrome mode, yes — it removes the background and outputs a transparent SVG. Color mode faithfully reproduces the entire image, so a white or transparent background becomes a solid area in the SVG; it does not produce a transparent background. It's a real trade-off: choose Color when the colors matter and the logo will sit on white, choose Monochrome when it has to sit on a photo or a colored background.

What kind of images work best?

Logos, icons, and flat graphics with solid colors vectorize beautifully. Photos and complex, continuous-tone images don't — bitmap-to-vector is a poor fit for photos, and we'll warn you when an upload looks like one.

Are there any file limits?

Accepted Answer

Each file can be up to 4MB and 4096x4096 pixels, and you can upload up to 20 at once. Supported formats are PNG, JPG, and WebP.

My logo's small text came out blurry or missing. What can I do?

Turn on 'Enhance text clarity'. It upscales the image before tracing so thin, sub-pixel strokes survive — at the cost of roughly 3x the file size.
